Effect of electrical stimulation of the posterior cingulate cortex on acquisition of active avoidance response in cats.

چکیده
Five groups of cats were studied in a two-way shuttle-box. Groups I, II and III were trained with electrical stimulation of the cingulate cortex applied simultaneously with the CS (light), Group IV with the light stimulus only, and Group V with electrical stimulation of the cingulate cortex as the CS. The comparison of the number of training sessions to attain a criterion showed that electrical stimulation of the posterior part of the cingulate cortex may facilitate the process of acquisition of the conditioned active avoidance response. The facilitatory effect was not accompanied by overt somatic and vegetative changes which suggests a direct participation of the stimulated area in the control of emotional-defensive behavior. It may be presumed that a faster acquisition of AAR was due to a better recognition of the events occurring in the environment and consequently to more rapid CS-US association.

THE EFFECT OF POSTERIOR CEREBRAL PULMONARY DIRECT ELECTRICAL STIMULATION (TDCS) ON IMPROVING SPATIAL, VISUAL, AND VERBAL PERCEPTUAL ABILITIES
Background & Aims: Direct electrical stimulation of the brain is a therapeutic technique that can be effective in improving visual, verbal, and spatial perception. The present study investigated the effect of direct electrical stimulation (tDCS) of the posterior parietal cortex on improving spatial, visual, and verbal perceptual abilities. Materials & Methods: In this quasi-experimental study,...
متن کاملEffects of electrical hippocampal stimulation on acquisition and performance of unidirectional active avoidance response in cats.
The influence of electrical stimulation of the posterior part of the hippocampus on acquisition and performance of the conditioned, unidirectional avoidance response was investigated in 26 cats. No significant differences in the speed of learning between stimulated and control animals were observed. However, electrical hippocampal stimulation with parameters 7/s, 100 microamps, 7/s, 200 microam...
متن کاملLocally Estimated Hemodynamic Response Function and Activation Detection Sensitivity in Heroin-Cue Reactivity Study
Introduction: A fixed hemodynamic response function (HRF) is commonly used for functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) analysis. However, HRF may vary from region to region and subject to subject. We investigated the effect of locally estimated HRF (in functionally homogenous parcels) on activation detection sensitivity in a heroin cue reactivity study. Methods: We proposed...
متن کاملElectrical stimulation of the hippocampus and acquisition of the conditioned avoidance response in shuttle-box in cats.
The effects of electrical stimulation and electrolytic lesions of the posterior part of the hippocampus on acquisition of the active avoidance response (AAR) in shuttle-box were studied in 35 cats. Both weak or strong hippocampal stimulation applied simultaneously with conditioned stimulus (CS) facilitated the acquisition of AAR. After discontinuation of stimulation the level of AAR performance...
متن کاملEffect of sensory deprivation and Locus Coeruleus (LC) electrical stimulation on the response properties of layer IV barrel cortex neurons in male rats
Introduction: Barrel cortex of rodents is responsible for sensory information processing from muzzle whiskers. Locus coeruleus (LC) as the main source of norepinephrine (NE) in the cortex, is effective on the sensory information processing. Methods: Rats were divided to 2 groups. One group underwent sensory deprivation (P4) and the other group served as control and did not undergo sensory d...
